If you went to college and ended up with a mountain of student loan debt, you may feel like you’re being punished for trying to better yourself.
Unfortunately, there isn’t much choice, you have to pay off your loan. But, there are a few tips you can follow to help pay off your loans more quickly so that the debt doesn’t become too much of a burden.
TIP 1: APPLY FOR FORGIVENESS PROGRAMS
If you decided to become a teacher, civil servant, or you work for a non-profit organization, you may be able to apply for a loan forgiveness program. These programs recognize that you are working to help the public in various ways, so they work to take away some of the debt you face.
There is a catch. First, you almost always have to be a teacher, civil servant, or work for a non-profit organization. Secondly, you may have to work in that position for several years before you qualify.
To see if you qualify, contact your loan holder and ask about the loan forgiveness program.
